About Lori

Hi, I'm Lori.

I'm a LPC Associate and founder of True Courage Counseling.

I grew up in a small town in southern Louisiana in a family system that was complicated and often overwhelming. From a young age, I learned how to read the room, take care of others, and keep things moving forward—even when things didn’t feel steady inside. Like many of the clients I work with now, I looked capable on the outside while quietly carrying anxiety, self-doubt, and the effects of experiences that were never fully addressed.

I originally studied education and spent years working with young people in different settings. Over time, I realized that what mattered most to me wasn’t teaching content—it was helping people understand themselves. That realization, along with my own personal work around anxiety and childhood trauma, eventually led me into counseling.

Why I Do This Work

I work primarily with older teens and young adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and the pressure to “figure life out” before they feel ready. Many of my clients are thoughtful, sensitive, and capable people who feel overwhelmed by expectations, unsure of their direction, or stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand.
Some are carrying obvious trauma. Others are carrying the quieter kind—the “not enough good,” emotionally confusing experiences that don’t always get named but still shape how you feel, think, and relate to others.
I believe healing happens through truth and courage:

  • Truth — noticing what’s really happening inside, without judgment
  • Courage — taking the next right step with support

Therapy isn’t about fixing you or rushing you forward. It’s about creating enough safety to understand your patterns, calm your nervous system, and make choices that actually align with who you are.

What It’s Like to Work Together

My style is warm, steady, and collaborative. Sessions are a place where you can slow down, talk honestly, and explore difficult experiences without pressure or shame.

I use a person-centered approach and draw from evidence-based tools including CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, and mindfulness. I also spend time teaching you how your brain and nervous system work, because understanding why you feel the way you do can be incredibly grounding.

Clients often describe our work together as:

Calm and supportive

Practical, not overwhelming

A place where nothing is “too much” to talk about

Empowering, without being pushy

You’re welcome to show up exactly as you are—quiet, emotional, unsure, or needing space to think.
